It is imporant to note that quality of life is not necessarily linked to your consumption factor. The story points out that Western Europe enjoys a very high quality of life (by whatever standard they are using) but has a relatively low consumption factor compared to the US. So, really, it is a matter of being educated and having choices....and THAT is for the greater good.
